Changing Lives: Emily’s Nursing Dream
Emily spent three rewarding years as a Certified Nurse Aide and aspired to pursue a career as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Remaining with her current employer, addressing training needs, securing financial assistance, and achieving financial stability were top considerations as she embarked on next steps.
Her employer had developed a Registered Apprenticeship Program in partnership with Jefferson County DuBois Vocational Technical School (Jeff Tech), aimed at leveling up incumbent employees on a nursing pathway. Due to Emily’s outstanding reputation and strong work ethic, she was selected to participate. Supported by the team at Jefferson County PA CareerLink, she was able to gain funding support for training and supplemental services. Invested in Emily’s future, her employer covered the balance.
In August of 2023, Emily completed her training, received high marks, and was named class valedictorian of the 69th Practical Nursing Class at Jeff Tech. The following month she successfully passed the state licensing exam and was elevated to an LPN with her current employer, earning a nomination for the 2024 Governor’s Award for Individual Achievement.
