Changing Lives: Jami’s Story

With no formal education, very little income, and the heartbreak of losing custody of her children, Jami faced immense challenges as a returning citizen.

In working with the team at SC Works Catawba, she embarked on a brighter future, enrolling in the Heavy Equipment Operators training program, a non-traditional career path that promised stability and growth. Leveraging the strength of local partnerships, Jami was also provided with temporary housing and work readiness support as she balanced a part-time job and rigorous training schedule.

Before long, she earned a certificate in heavy equipment operation and began on-the-job training with LCI-Lineberger Construction. She also achieved her most important life-changing milestone – regaining custody of her children.

Today, Jami is a proud mother and a skilled professional, who embodies resilience and the transformative power of second chances. Reflecting on her journey, she shared, “The program made it happen for me. This place is where it’s at.”
